What Am I Worth

In a retail environment you know what you are going to charge for your products. You buy at a certain price and you charge the client a commonly acceptable price.

What of the service industry. How do I value my services? I find myself constantly re-evaluating myself, upwards. Which is good, except I am frustrated with my not fully knowing. This comes about because I am moving from commission based fees to 'fee for service'. Prior I did not have to know my worth, I was given it by the company. Now I am coming to the realisation of my worth.

How do I come to this knowledge? Making mistakes and suffering for them. Making assumptions and getting them wrong.

How is my value ascertained? By the cost of running the business, educating myself, time spent with and on clients files. Not all clients will pay the same because there are low value clients and high value clients. There are client who expect a lot and those who just want me to place the business.

I must go through this process and the pain will open my brain to the right perspective. I am not going to work for nothing and I think my problem will never be charging too much, I am not wired that way, the opposite is more the truth. I must embrace the change and get with the programme rather than throw up my hands in frustration and walk away.

The day is coming when I understand my worth and lift my head in confidence and freely say, 'this is what I will charge' and enjoy the experience.
